Finding Peace

On Saturday I got to enjoy one of those blissfully perfect long runs that remind me why I love running so much. A starting temperature of 50 degrees, the sun slowly rising to its beauty over Lake Monona, empty streets, just the sound of perfectly in rhythm footsteps lightly and gracefully hitting the pavement.

FIXEDhaha

No, not really…

For the first 4.6 miles I had the company of @mcmmama who was here all the way from the D.C. area.  I’ve met her once last summer, but this time I pressured her into going for a little run while she was in town. THIS is what makes social media awesome. The fact that two interwebs acquaintances who live hundreds of miles away from each were able to get a chance to run together. It was such a joy to take our conversations out of the computer/iPhone and onto the streets.

water-walk-picAfter I parted ways from her, I was on my own to face the demon that I call the lake loop. This time I went in the reverse direction that I normally go. By just being on the opposite side of the road there was a lot more to notice and appreciate on this route. It’s a feast for me eyes to admire the flower filled landscapes while I cruise up and down the hills of the lake loop.  I’m finally finding peace with the lake loop.

When I got to the other side of Lake Monona I stopped at a park where John and I had planned on meeting which was my mile 9, his mile 3. Our timing was perfect! He arrived just seconds after I did. This is what I call a match made in runner-couple heaven!

After 5 more miles I reached 14 miles and he reached 8, which wrapped up a successful morning long run. So many wonderful things to appreciate in 14 miles!! I’m happy with how great the start of this marathon training is going. Having a good start is going to keep my head in a good place.

So who’s traveling to Madison next weekend to join me at the start a 16 miler?

  1. Ah, I can’t wait for temps in the 50s! I would love to tackle that lake loop with you, but I don’t have any plans to go to WI any time soon. Maybe I should track down MCMMama for a run around here …. 😉

  2. First off, that’s a HUGE lake!!! Great job on your run. Second off, don’t you love how just changing what side of the street you run on, etc., completely changes how your run goes?
